A lot of you have asked me to begin providing information on the Dominican Republic.
Well, probably the best place to go to in the Dominican Republic is the town of Sosua, in the northern part of the island. Sosua was founded by Jewish immigrants; you can still find restaurants and buildings with German names.
Sosua is an exciting town, in which locals and tourists mix freely.
Prices for accomodations are very reasonable. You can get a hotel room for $25-$50US per night.
A good place to start is www.rockysbar.com
Rockys provides decent, simple rooms at around $25/night. They speak English at Rockys and can give you the lay of the land in Sosua. After a day or two at Rockys you will have a better idea of other places to stay, and there are many.
