In November 2011, members of the Rio de Janeiro Special Support of Tourism (DEAT) arrested seven women in Copacabana for being dangers to tourism. The women were detained for suspicion of placing drugs into men’s drinks and then robbing, or having others rob, the men. Cariocas (residents of Rio) refer to this practice as “Boa Noite Cinderella” or “Good Night Cinderella. The label makes reference to the expectation of the men of a good time (their dream) which sadly turns into a nightmare of robbery, or worse.
The police questioned a total of eighty women in the sweeps.
Renata Teixeira de Assis, a spokesperson, stated that the DEAT sweeps will be routine.
