Hotel Europa Plaza in Sosua, Dominican Republic. The place to be in the Dominican Republic.

Many who travel to the Caribbean stay in all-inclusive resorts where for one price they receive a room, food, shows, and, in some spots perhaps women or men, from what I hear.  The rates can be quite high.  Plus, you are in secluded areas, far away from local culture.  A better option is to stay in lower priced apartment-style hotels that are located in the center of town.  These hotels range from $25-60/ per night and $300-700/ month.

I chose to stay in an apartment hotel and know this was a good decision. Hey, why come to the Dominican Republic to spend time with other tourists inside a hotel compound?

The Hotel Europa Plaza is my base here in the Dominican Republic.  Europa is located in the center of town on Calle Pedro Clisante.  You can get a room for a month for $600US.  All rooms have kitchenette (fridge, stove, sink), bathroom, cable TV (200 channels with English and Spanish), air conditioner, ceiling fan, and balcony overlooking pool and jacuzzi.

There are always some people hanging out at the bar located in the lobby area.  The bar owner is an American who is friendly and knowledgeable about the Dominican Republic  and other areas.

I filmed a little video to give you an idea of the hotel experience in the Dominican Republic.
