Brazilian Judge finds owner of Copacabana popular sex club INNOCENT of trumped up exploitation charge!

Monte Carlo, the popular club a block from the beach in Copacabana was the scene of a police raid a few months ago. People were arrested for sexual exploitation (pimping), a serious offense in Brazil where prostitution itself is completely legal.

For years people have complained that city officials might be on a moral crusade to rid itself of “vices” that other nations might not appreciate during the World Cup (2014) and Olympic Games (2016).  This raid was part of the crusade we stated here on this blog.

Finally, a judge (on September 3, 2012) agrees with us that the city is going too far and this crusade is quite clear to most of us!

Roberto Rodrigues Pereira and Everton Milestones Souza Rodrigues, the owner and manager of Monte Carlo, stood acussed of sexual exploitation (taking advantage of the prostitution of others), a felony punishable by 1 to 4 years in prison. The judge, Rubens Casara, threw the case out and admonished the prosecutor!

The judge made it clear that this campaign against prostitution is misguided. If the city really cared about the women themselves, arresting the owners of clubs that allow the women to meet customers is not the way to got about it. Even if the owners are convicted, stated the judge, the women face no charges and they will just take their profession, which is legal, elsewhere. So what is the harm done by the owners who in essence provide an environment where both parties, the customers and the women feel safe?! Without termas (sex clubs) these encounters will have to take place in the streets and in private residences, placing the women, quite possibly, in more danger.

Wow, it is about time somebody on an official level stated what we all knew has been going on ever since the city closed down Help Disco. The rich and powerful are attempting to control the morals of others to put on a different face for the World Cup and Olympics.  We can only hope that Rio will continue to be the city people for centuries have come to love rather than one attempting to emulate the morals of outsiders.

More police raids on houses of prostitution in Rio de Janeiro last night.

The police seem to be on a mission in Rio to harass any place frequented by prostitutes. For the record, prostitution is 100% legal in Brazil; however, it seems that ever since Rio received notification it would be home to the Olympic Games, police have been extra vigilant about raiding clubs and checking “paperwork”.

This time police, employing 100 agents, raided multiple clubs in Copacabana, the beach zone where most tourists stay. The only clubs where arrest were made were Centaurus, a tier one spa for men to spend time with women, and Luomo, also a tier one spa.  The only people arrested were owners and managers.

The other clubs including the Miami Peep Show video arcade, an adult sex shop located adjacent to the Catholic Church, and Barbarella’s, a longtime favorite club, received no citations.

Police arrested three people (two women and one man) and confiscated around 300,000 reais in cash, according to reports. I am not sure if the amount is correct. Four men and their prostitutes were caught in the act (how embarrassing?). They were all questioned and released. Clients/patrons of these establishments are not arrested because prostitution is legal.

The police stated they only seek to charge the owners with exploitation of prostitutes, a violation of Articles 228 and 229 of the Penal Code, which carry a penalty of between 2 to 5 years in prison.  Clients are not being targeted by police apparently.

The raided establishments were:
Café Sensoo
La Cicciolina
Don Juan
Termas Casablanca
Boate Miami Show
Boate Calábria
Boate 204

Here is VIDEO from a raid two weeks ago at Balcony Bar, which is the favorite hangout for tourists in Copacabana. Police say locals complained of loud noise and drug dealing. Seems the Copacabana local elite are at it again. They were the ones that got Help Disco closed down by CLAIMING the disco, which was wildly popular among single male tourists, was ruining Copacabana. Since the closing of Help, property values in Copacabana have risen dramatically and the rich get richer!

4 x 4, the most popular club for foreigners closed

The Brazilian police strike has hit Rio de Janeiro after beginning in Bahia last week. But as a possible show of force, the police raided 4×4, the massage parlor/club so popular with foreign travelers (and Brazilians).

Earlier this month, the city began forcing the women in the club to wear clothing in the bar area. Traditionally, women in termas would wear only bathing suits, thongs, etc.

Now the police have raided 4×4 closing it down indefinitely. We assume the club will be up and running again soon. The club raids have become quite routine in Rio beginning in 2011. There had always been raids of clubs where there was a suspicion of drug activity or the presence of under-aged females. But last year it seems the Rio police began raiding most clubs in Rio at some time or another. 4 x 4 received the most attention and still does. The difference between the pre-2011 raids is that the police no longer detain male patrons or IDs. Hopefully, this change means gentleman can feel safe visiting clubs again. For a while men feared being caught in a raid in Brazil and detained in a Brazilian jail for no reason. It seems the police are now focusing on club owners and leaving patrons alone.

No more skimpy dress in Rio massage parlors

In preparation for the Olympic Games the government of Rio de Janeiro has been clamping down on certain industries. Most prominently, massage parlors (casas de massagems) and thermas have been receiving increased attention from police as authorities seem bent on preventing Olympic visitors from witnessing the “sex industry” in the city.

Beginning February 1, clubs in the city can no longer allow women to dress in thongs and other skimpy attire, which was common. Now women must be fully clothed.

Termas 4X4 (Quartro by Quatro) raided by police and closed!!!!!!!!

On Friday, July 8, 2011, at 10pm, the Rio police raided and closed the popular termas/massage parlor in Rio de Janeiro known as 4×4. As always we tell visitors to be safe when in Rio!

The word is that Rio officials cited the establishment for illegal drug activity and “illegal” prostitution.
Officials took 18,000US dollars and computers from the club. Some persons were apparently caught “in the act” of prostitution!
